Javon's latest recording,
Once Upon a Melody,
is set for release by Palmetto Records on September 16. Once
Upon a Melody finds Javon celebrating his love of acoustic
jazz, performing music by Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, McCoy
Tyner and contemporary artist Corinne Bailey Rae.
The tracks for the new CD
were carefully chosen, documenting, as Javon puts it "select
recordings that have special meaning for me." Revisiting
his days in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, paying tribute to the
great Sonny Rollins and adding some music of his own, Javon recorded
some of the great melodies that have inspired him for years. Joining
Javon this time around are Eric Reed on piano, Corcoran Holt on
bass and Billy Drummond on drums.
